I believe that a solid education is the greatest gift we can give our youth to break the cycle of poverty.
We strive to build self-esteem, to provide positive role models and to point the way to a future of hope and achievement. To ensure that we offer this opportunity to as many South Los Angeles children, we need your spiritual support and financial generosity.
Saint Michael exists in a shattered community, which exhibits the problems of any inner city; crime, drugs, prostitution and unemployment. Founded in 1903, this fully accredited school educates approximately 200 students. Tuition is negotiated per families’ ability to pay which on an average is $1,500.00 annually, but the actual cost to educate each student is $4,500.00.
Active fund-raising by parents, subsidy by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, “Together in Mission” from the Archdiocesan Education Foundation and other generous foundations and donors help bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each child.
The necessity to increase our tuition assistance fund is the number one priority for St. Michael, especially since 75 of our families have experienced an unexpected depletion in their financial resources mainly from unemployment due to our national crisis.
It is no secret that these families are struggling. Everyday our children face obstacles that to many people would be overwhelming. Children in South Los Angeles have been robbed of their right to dream and to vision a future for themselves.
